Pleione Ashmore 'Inkie'

Keith Rattray ‘Kelty’ was the break-through cross which ultimately gave rise to the orange/red cultivars we now treasure. Its sister clone ‘Black Cap’, a stunning and uniform deep-purple, is one of the parents for this cross. Keith Rattray ‘Kelty’ unfortunately proved well-nigh impossible to grow and it is fortunate that ‘Inkie’ not only closely resembles it, but is also an improvement upon it. It is a clone Rainer Kretz was very proud of for being small flowered, on taller stems and possessing all the grace and charm of a species Pleione. Reddish purple sepals and petals and one of the finest orange lips around. Exceedingly rare.
