Named by German Pleione specialist Bernhard Röllich in honour of the late Dr. Horst Pfennig of Herford, perhaps the best-known early Pleione grower in Germany, who shared this rarity with Rainer Kretz. This is a distinctive clone with intensely coloured small flowers of rich purple, the lip with two distinctive white keels. Dainty and elegant, it illustrates the huge variation within this species.
