This is a superb and rarely offered hybrid between the well-known Himalayan P. praecox and the still extremely rare true P. x lagenaria, the latter a natural hybrid between P. praecox and P. maculata. Made by Ian Butterfield, it is a magnificent addition to the range of autumn-flowering Pleiones. The lip has a deep
yellow blotch and small reddish-brown spots. ‘The Genus Pleione’ describes the flowers as shades of amethyst-violet, darkening with age.
