Late in his hybridising career Ian Butterfield aimed some of his crosses towards daintier, more elegant and species-like results. This, a cross between a small flowered primary hybrid and a species is one of these. Spotted by Rainer Kretz at the nursery in a pan of mixed seedlings, he managed to persuade Ian to part with a bulb of this uncomplicated hybrid made up of just three species, including the rare Pln. scopulorum. Received in 2020 and build up from a single bulb this has been shared with me for safe keeping. Medium sized flowers of yellow heavily overlaid with purple and darkening with age, the yellow lip with entire keels and heavily blotched with dark-red.
